Bulgarian Summer

WorldTeach Bulgarian Summer 2009

Hello all,

My name is Meia. I'm currently a junior at Hollins University studying Creative Writing. Originally from West Virginia, I have always known that I wanted to do something with my life. When I first came to Hollins in 2006, I took a wide array of courses in my quest to find what interested me. My education here has taught me many influential things about the world, and has influenced my decision to be a teacher. In turn, it also led me to WorldTeach.

WorldTeach is a program ran by Harvard University where undergraduate students can apply to teach for a summer or semester abroad. I was first introduced to the program through one of my Professors, Dr. LeeRay Costa, and began to explore the program in more detail.

I was accepted by Harvard for the WorldTeach Program to travel this June to Bulgaria to teach English in orphanages and foster homes across the country. I applied for the position because I believe that the youth determine the future for Bulgaria, and, in providing them useful skills, they could make a difference. The program will run fron June 20th through the 14th of August.

I'm currently still trying to raise the necessary funds for the trip, but I'm keeping the faith that I will somehow find all the money that I need. I plan on posting pictures and small blogs while in Bulgaria so please keep an eye out for updates! Thank you all for visiting!

Best of luck in everything,

Meia
